Cleaning PG-500

On the exterior I use the 409 degreaser. It really cleanes the surface well and makes it like new. However, the grease stains that drip below the door won't come off. So I doubt it will work on your spots. I like things to look clean, but I realize that it will never look like the day it arrived.

We use Greased Lightning. It is the best we have found.

I am a big fan of Barkeeper's Friend for everything stainless steel. I prefer the liquid and it requires a little more elbow grease than the powdered form, but works great.

That's what Stuart says he uses on his grill, as he was looking at my well seasoned PG500. I know, it doesn't help when the seasoning is on the outside, oh well...there is no doubt about the usage/hours on mine!

Greased Lightning seemed to work for the spills but for the burned on stain I was out of luck (see attachment).

I wouldn't worry about that small amount, but oven cleaner may do the job if it still bothers you.

Try cleaning the smoke stains off the outside when the smoker is hot. You may need gloves, but I think you'll find it comes of easy.

Pro-force oven clearer from Sam’s will do the job. It can be used hot or cold and requires very little effort on your part. Just spray it on, let it sit and then wipe or rinse off. May require more than one application depending on the degree of deposits and you can use a light abrasive scrubby if necessary, just don’t overdo it in one spot. Follow up with a stainless steel polish if you desire.

Some words of caution:
1. Wear chemical gloves as the product attacks protein and that is the material your nails are made of. It will cause them to curl and turn yellow if allowed to stay on for any period of time.
2. The stuff will remove the seasoning on the inside as well.
3. Heat the unit up after cleaning to burn off any residue which can affect the flavor of the Q.
