I just ordered a Cook Shack Smokette. I was really happy with my purchase until I read the post from the guy who asked about the Smokin Tex. I went to their site and found that they are offering a Holiday special for less than what CS is offering up as a special for the Smokette. The Smokin Tex comes with a bundle of extras (bigger unit, cold smoking plate, extra rack, cover and rib hooks. It looks like the same thing as the CS smokette only bigger and a better deal. I read the posts in defense of the CS being made in America. I like that, but is everything (all parts) of a CS made in America? I doubt it.

So why should I not cancel my order for the CS Smokette and buy the Smokin Tex??

Anybody?? Mad

Mornin',Dufus99.

I have nothing bad ,or good,to say about the new Smokin'Tex offshore cookers.

No one has any experience with them yet,as far as I know.

I can say that Cookshack has been producing ultra-reliable products for some 40 years.

Their customer service is great, whether purchased from them or a distributor.

Even if we make the wrong purchase or change our thoughts, they bend over backwards to get us on a track that makes us happy.

They have the expertise with their products to solve special problems or to meet special needs of their purchasers.

Hope this helps some.
Stay where you are.I like the peace of mind of knowing the products track record, and the impeckable service. This other unit may be fine, and the service may be ok, but I'm not willing to risk my playtime, and food to be a pionneer for a few bucks. I tried another smoker first(bradly), because someone(distributer) said it was just as good+ extras. I lost $100 sending it back, an education is expensive. I love my model 50.

Don't own a Smokin'Tex. Can't say much good or bad about them. We can tell you about CS.

CS has this forum, ST doesn't.
CS is made in the US (hand made in Ponca City from sheet stainless steel by the way), ST is made in China
CS has THE best Customer Service (read the forum posts about these) don't know about ST customer service
CS has a 100% return policy...you don't like it, send it back. ST...???

Get the idea.

And if you're in doubt, call CS and ask. They'll answer any questions about manufacturing, etc

Hope it helps.

p.s. you can still join us here in the forum, you'll just have to put up with a little friendly ribbing now and then.
Yo Dufus, I have owned both a Smokin'Tex Jr.and a Smokin'Tex Sr. However, they were both made by cookshack for Smokin'Tex,So I can't attest to their new smoker. However, I did find them easy to deal with and prompt in their delivery. I would suggest that if you have any doubts, you call them and discuss their return policy, etc. I consider myself a Cook Shack owner however, and can strongly reccommend their product and business ethics. As has been pointed out, the Cook Shack smoker is a known commodity and the new Smokin'Tex is not. Good Luck.

When I was trying to decide between ST and CS, I called each company. Couldn't get the info from ST over the phone, but got into a conversation with someone there over email. They were willing to make deals, but they really seemed (to me) as if I were bugging them and they were just getting irritated by a possible customer.

Called CS, and got the friendliest service I ever have.

It was like the CS folks were welcoming you into their home, while the ST folk reminded me of the clerk at 7-11 who just wants you to buy something or get out of the store.

Just my thoughts.

I just purchased a SmokinTex smoker. I also looked at the Cook shack unit, but the Smokintex was larger, came with wheels and had a more powerful heating element. It was also slightly less money.

I found the people at SmokinTex to be very helpful.

I suspect that you can't go wrong with either unit. Electric smokers are definitely the way to go.
