Just got mine Monday and have it seasoned and ready to go. But have a few questions for you Smokers.
1) Can (or have) any of you used the smoker while not at home, and is it safe to do so.
2) While the smoker is not in use do you latch or unlatch the door.
3) Will it take longer to smoke meat outside in the Winter time than the Summer time.
I looked for some threads on these but found none. Going to smoke a Butt first.
Thanks Smiler

1) Yes you can use the smoker while not at home. It is one of the benefits of the cookshack. At work, I put a brisket or a butt in it at night and comeback to it the next day for lunch.

2) When not in use I would keep the door closed and latched. This keeps bugs and such from visiting and making a home in it, as well as keeping prying eyes out.

3) Due to its insulation, it shold not take that much longer to cook during the winter than summer.

Good luck and welcom abouard.

You sure can smoke while not at home - just like the old CrockPot slogan "Cooks all day while the cook's away."

Keeping the door latched won't keep bugs out, unless your bugs are mighty big. They can just climb in the bottom or top holes. I've never seen one in mine tho - I bet the smoke smell scares them off.
Thanks to everyone on the feed back.
Yesterday I put a 6.86 lb. butt in the smoker
for 13 1/2 hrs. and it turned out great. I could pull it apart with my hands. That's how tender it was. Two hours per pound @ 225
is perfect for a butt. This weekend I going to try pork ribs. Thanks again. Big Grin
