I have two great things that happened to me today. I joined the forum and I am a happy CS owner again. I had a smokette that I loved but wanted something a little bigger. Made a mistake and jumped to a large "Grand Cafe" propane smoker. I cant say how disapointed I was that I sold my smokette. Today was like Christmas as a kid. I ordered a new CS 50 today and it should be here in a week! I am so excited to be back in a CS. Am I the only idiot to make the mistake to leave CS and then come back. I need help in the boat to row so I'm not by myself.

Harry, Your post was music to my ears. I was torn between a Grand Cafe ('cause they're big you know, and priced pretty good) and a CS 50. MY 55 should arrive this week...and I'm really excited about it.

Others have written about being able to taste the gas/propane through the smoke flavor on the gas-fired smokers. You find that to be true?

I know they aren't as efficient as the CS. What other experiences did you have with it?

Having owned a CS smokette before, trust me, you have made a great choice. My 50 will be to me next week.
On the issue of propane and taste. I can not say that I tasted the propane. I did notice a difference in the taste of the meat. I am by no way an expert on these matters but I believe the propane makes it harder to get the smoke flavor into the meat as well. I could be wrong but it was like it coated the meat or something. I couldn't taste the propane but I was never happy with the amount of smoke flavor I would get from it. It cooked great. I will attach some ribs I cooked in it for you to see but I was always wanting more smoke flavor. That was never the case with the CS. You have to be careful with the CS to prevent to much smoke flavor. As many have said on the forum, a little wood goes a long long way.
The other issue I had was regulating the temp. If I ever had the temp get to high it was extremely hard to get the temp down.
Good luck with your new 55!!!
