O.K. so I bought a pre canned product for Del Mont* savory sides. A quick fix, with some pork rib tips I put in the smomker this afternoon. It's 4:35pm EST and now they are closed for Presidents Day on MONDAY. It's ok. I just was going to suggest some BBQ sauce in their Sante Fe corn mix. I guess since they are in San Fran and really (I mean really, gotta check it out) The botom of the can ON THE INSIDE has a pull tab. I'zzz dont know which way to pull. that must mean... all their employes are stuck in cans 'till purchased? So maybe some day thell will get a clue to add customer ideas. Thank you COOKSHACK for not shipping some one sealed in my smoker until I could get them out.

I think the lid on his canned good was inverted, so that the pull tab was inside the product. I am the Del Mont* safety rep, and we put those pull tabs inside the cans in case an employee accidentally gets stuck in there. If you found one of our employees who was too stupid to pull the tab, please tell him......he's been canned!

(Remember when you had to watch a full hour of "Hee Haw" for just one joke of that caliber?)

Oh, come on Steve - How can you be confused? It's obvious - He's having a problem with his thermometer probes. He should have tested them BEFORE pulling the tab.

(I'm a little concerned - Naples isn't all that far from where I am right now)
Sunshack; Jeez Buddy, just got otta' the VA hospital today myself,(not diet related). Good to see the CS form is doing what it does' best. I've found that when the Jack Man is on you take a package of saltines and crush them over your keyboard. Help's ya from slurring. FWIW..dls,K.E I'll be in probate court @ the Daly Center 28th this month, 2:00pm. Don't know of any Q places in the area (loop) but Al's #1 roast beef is something to look forward to . OK to keep in context,Sunshack.....NO
You're probably shopping at Walmart. They only sell the basic version of the can without the inside pull tab. It's their way of keeping costs down and passing the savings on to the customer.

If you notched up your choice of vendors a bit, you could get the limited edition cans. A little more costly, but well worth it for that inside tab. Comes in very handy for special occasions when you are entertaining large groups.
KathyE,dls, and uhhh... Sunspot; Bridgeville's 'bout 10 miles south of Pittsburgh, just off I-79. And no we won't meet at the VA. Very fine folks there but 3 weeks in ICU is enough for awhile. Shoot an e-mail when you get this way and we'll take it from there. dls, my pop's took me to Maxwell street all the time when I was a kid. Talk 'bout GOOD food,Yes!!! Gonna take the Orange back from the loop to midway that afternoon so if I get chance I'll head on over to Jim's. Gotta have the timing right there 'cause when it gets dark there it gets dark...ya know! Regards Folks.
Whhalebone - Keep in mind that, sadly, tho old Maxwell Street market is long gone. The City pretty much wiped it out a few years ago for an expansion of the U of I campus. Jim's was one of the survivors and was relocated a few blocks away. Pretty tame area but still the same great food (And as always, you can smell it from a couple of blocks away).

The old Sat./Sun. market is sorely missed. Great food vendors, most with makeshift stands that they would set up for a day - BBQ was great - ribs for the most part. Retailers with their used, knockoff, or "borrowed/found" merchandise (My favorite was the guy with 10,000+ hubcaps). To top it off, there was the music. Strictly blues. A lot of very good no-names sitting on the corners but also musicians such as Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker that got their big kickoff there. So much for nostalgia. Sweet Home Chicago.
Did my homework on Savory Sides.

Also I think someone was doing some Pork Rib Tips and decided they would have the Santa Fe Corn as a side but the lift tab was nowhere to be found and upon somehow opening the can in some other manner, the lift tab was found on the inside...with a rather t'd off Del Monte Employee ....errrr... well perhaps the lable was on upside down and someone couldn't understand why the pull tab was somehow placed on the bottom of the can..... Am I really part of this?

Still a great post. Perhaps there will be a can of "Vienna Weinies with the pull tab" post in the next installment of Sunshacks Big Adventure.

"Lassie go find Timmy I can't reach the pull tab to get out of this well!"
tony 76284, I never thought about the label being on upside down. see, I need to learn to think outside the can.
Listen I have opened a can of savorysides myself.it was german potato salad I think. think it was made by German Del Mont* employees trying to get even for WWII.It was brought in through our Ports that are protected by UnAmericans.
I agree that Viennas- called V-eye-ennas here in OK-should be our next subject.we could smoke them in those little armadillo shaped jalapeno popper holders they sell.
