There wasn't an IQ3 if I remember right (hey, it's 6 years ago). They went from the Traeger dial controller to the IQ4.

I'd suggest getting it and cooking with it then decide if you need the upgrade.

The huge difference is temp swings. The 4 has electronic controls and is more adjustable for temps whereas the Traeger has only a few settings. The IQ4 also has a cook and hold feature if you buy the temp probe also.

With my IQ4 it tends to hold temps very close (depending on how windy causing more airmovement in the vent area).

I use a Trager at home, works great for me.
