If you ordered a Cookshack you would recieve a booklet that includes seasoning instructions. They say to put in about 2-4oz. hickory and let the smoker run at 250* for about 4 hrs (I did mine for 5 hours). It cooks off any ill tasting manufacturing oils, etc. and begins the internal seasoning as well as sealing process. In fact, after several initial cooks; a few slabs of ribs and a few pork butts - I did it again anyway "just because".
I have a Masterbuilt, gonna set it up tomorrow, I went through the manual online and saw it didn't mention anything about seasoning, but I'm gonna do it anyway. The reasoning is solid and there really is no reason not to.
