Hey guys . . I've been looking for a QUALITY wireless thermometer and found this:

The Nu-Temp Simple Wireless Thermometer Model# NU-701. What do you guys think? I ordered an AmeriQue, it gets here either tomorrow or the day after, so I'm not sure if I even really need one.

Tom, thanks for your reply. I know the AmeriQue will do everything I need but I was thinking it might be fun to have something wireless on the night stand to monitor the smoker during the night. The ET-73 looks like a great idea but I read the reviews at Amazon and it appears that the quality and range of operation of this product are not quite up to par. Thats when I went on a hunt for a higher quality product and found the NU-Temp. I'm surprised at how hard it is to find a high quality wireless smoker thermometer. Anyone that has experience with the Nu-Temp, or another high quality product, please let me know what it is like. Thanks.

I have to agree with Tom on this one. I have used a Maverick ET73 for over four years now and am happy with it. Please understand that the thing I like the best about the Maverick is that you can set both a high and a low temp alarm at the same time on it. And that is what I want to know the most. I agree that the range is not great but I can bring the receiving unit far enough into the house that I will hear the alarm if it goes off.

Just my thoughts.
Well I decided to try the Nu-Temp cause I found a SUPER deal on them at:

You can get it for $40 plus $5 shipping and if you want extra probe and transmitter they are $20. Saved me 20 bucks off their normal price. If you do this the shopping cart will show $6.50 for the shipping but they adjust it down and charge you only the $5.

Coool its working again thats great Smiler I just got the thing in the mail today and it is a very nice unit. Quality construction all the way. The probe is heavy duty with nice steel braided cable. It doesnt transmit through a wall however, but I dont think any of them will. One nice feature is the indoor temp readout from the base unit and the outdoor temp from the transmitter. Without the probe connected it switches to a thermometer in the transmitter so you can leave it outside and have indoor/outdoor temp readout when ur not using it. You can also set it to alarm if going up past the set temp or down below the set temp. It appears to transmit when there is a temp change but if the base unit is out of range it doesnt tell you the temp just doesnt update on the base unit so you have to experiment with it to see where it will work.

Update on the Nu-Temp: Do NOT use Duracell batteries in this thing. The nipple size on the positive terminals can be too short. After they make a zillion AAA batteries the nipple size falls outta spec but they dont change the dies in time. The unit will appear to be functioning normally but the transmission will be extremely weak. Use Energizer Lithium series for maximum performance and everything works great. Also, to be fair, I have to report that the first transmitter they sent me was defective. At first it wouldnt transmit under 45*F then it failed completely. One call to customer service and I had a new one in a couple of days, no problems since. This is a nice, quality, wireless thermometer.

I have the ET 73 and it is okay. It won't transmit from the smoker, outside, through the garage door to the receiver in the kitchen, but it is otherwise reliable. About 3 wks ago I bought a Smart BBQ unit at WalMart for $15 and have used it twice and I'm very pleased with it. It will transmit through the garage door into the kitchen without a problem. So far I am extremely pleased with it, especially for $15. Big Grin
I have two ET-73s. Last weekend, I didn't know I was going to be able to get off and compete until almost noon on Friday. When I was setting up I found that I hadn't packed the receivers for the remotes.

I wasn't about to make a seventy mile round trip to get them so, I said to he!! with it, and trusted the FEs to do what they were supposed to and Thermapen. I think from now on I'll leave them in the trailer and avoid that problem.

I did order two Maverick ET-901s on Woot.com Sunday for $20.00 a piece. They run daily specials on all different types of things.

Don't know if it was a good deal or not, but I'm a glutton for punishment when I hear something I "might" use is on sale.
