Ok, I have gathered an assortment of several rubs and need to know which one I like best. So i took two slabs, cut them in half to make 4 half slabs.

then I rubbed each in a different configuration of garlics and rubs from what I have gathered up.

Placed them in those write on zip bags and wrote which rub went on that section of ribs. I then mixed them up and wrote letters A on one, b on another, c and then D without looking at the ingredients.

I will then place them in order in the cooker, ab top shelf, cd next down.

When done, I will sample one or two ribs from each slab, write down my choices and then go check the bags to see which had which rub to narrow down my favorite!

I have no idea why I shared this, and it does seem kinda silly, but I made my own blind test to get my favorite recipe.

Am I crazy or what!!

Ok, the test is over!!

I did the blind test, put them on 4 plates marked abc and d.

Me and the wife sat down and each sampled one piece from each plate with a good beverage wash down in between and made notes.

The rubs/recipes I used were:

A- McCormicks Grillmates Rib Rub and Minced garlic

B- Tony Checheres Cajun Spice Rub and Minced garlic

C- Gilleys Rib Rub and minced garlic

D- KC Masterpiece BBQ Spice and minced garlic

I didnt know which recipe belonged to each letter until after the test. Also note that all of these rubs are store bought grocery store chain versions.

I then gave 4 points for first place, 3 for 2nd, and so forth.

Me and the wife both gave B first place and then varied a little from there..here are the results:

B- 8 points
D- 5 points
A- 4 points
C- 3 points

well there you go, it was a fun experiment anyways and let us know for sure which was our favorite.

I also used 4 oz of hickory chunks. The ribs were very moist, no smoke ring, and had a pretty hard bark on the outside. They were also in the cooler for 30 mins after smoking for 5 hours.

Just as a FYI chicken if you want a smoke ring just take a little Morton Tender Quick about 1/2 a tsp for a large slab of ribs ( or more if you have a larger piece of meat ) sprinkle on meat rub it in really good let it sit in the frig over night and you will have very nice smoke ring In my humble opinion it really dose not change the taste but I do do it for show some times
Boz Cool
