Smoking today at set temp of 220 and smoker as high as 295
I have turned it off and unplugged it but so far has not helped

Possible causes could depend on what smoker you have, among other things. Is the 295 reading from a separate temp probe or the one built into the smoker?

Was on the cooker
I talked w cookshack rep and I think the problem was from me restarting it and the element running for 25 min straight each time I restarted it
Today i ran it and it seems ok

Yeah, the electric cookers run flat-out for 30 minutes or so on startup. Tends to overshoot a bit, but on my AQ, it seems to be limited to around 250 or so on a 225 set temp. Glad it worked out.
