Hey,

Got my 008 today. I am seasoning my smoker as we speak.

I have a meat temperature probe. Right now I have it dangling in the vent hole to monitor the internal temp of the smoker. I think the probe I have is a piece of junk and I am looking to get a new one.

I like the wireless ones. Can someone give me a recommendation for a wireless temperature monitor that has a meat probe and a probe to monitor the smokers internal temperature?

Thanks

IMO you are overkilling the 008 and creating endless things for you to worry about-instead of just cooking the meat.

The Maverick above is widely accepted though.

Personally,I'd go to Target,or a box store,and buy a $15 Taylor with a wire.

Put the probe through a ball of foil and set it on the center shelf, cooker set at 250º

Run it through the seasoning process, and glance at the readout about every hour.

If it swung somewhere around 25º/40º +/- of 250º throw away the foil and never mess with it again.

Next time you cook, check the Taylor for accuracy, stick the probe in a hunk of meat, close door and cook until done.

Just my $0.02
A word of caution on the Maverick ET-73 - I have had nothing but bad results from mine. Mine has a measured range of 9 feet and that has to be direct line of sight - they advertise 100 ft. range. Mine will stop updating for long periods and will occasionally shut itself off. On the rare occasions that it works, it seems to be fairly accurate, to give credit where credit is due. Since it was a Christmas present, by the time I used it, it was beyond their 90 day warranty period so I'm stuck with a $50 paperweight. Lots of folks have them and swear by them - I swear AT mine. Cheap Chinese trash IMO, YMMV. Buyer beware, as always.
It's amazing the different opinions and experiences with the 73!!

I have mine and use it at about 20 feet away through a rock wall with no bad results. Although I always sync it up side by side before placing it beside the computer. Maybe that helps or maybe I'm just lucky. I am a rabbit under the chinese zodiac after all. Big Grin
Taylor *made* a good remote in the model 1474. I checked out the xmitter and it went to 400 feet with ease. But then they discontinued it; why I don't know.

There's a new one currently on sale on eBay you could bid on. I haven't used mine enough to check on the reliability but Taylor does warrant the probes for a year.
