I have a model 55 and I have the new smokebox allready in the smoker. I had to open the unit while in use and noticed there was fire coming out of the smoke box. The temp. was set at 225 and had hickory in the box. Should I worry about that and will that give me a differant smoke flavor to the meat? The wood is from CS and it has a little age on it but it still had a good color to it so I don't think it was to dry.
Is the new smokebox getting to the wood hot?

Thanks

Well, no replies yet?

We the wood new or seasoned. Sometimes new woods seems to "fire" pretty easily.

I wouldn't worry unless it's a FIRE!

Wood plus oxygen plus heat equals fire. It won't create more or better smoke flavor until after the black smoke dies down. There is a whole 'nuther discussion about what smoke, what kind of smoke (clear or what) creates the smoke flavor. But heavy sooty smoke, when a fire first starts, is NOT what you want.

I usually leave these up to Stuart, but he's REALLY busy. I'd suggest calling customer service for a quick answer if you're still worried about a "fire."

The only time I've had a "fire" problem is in the large 150's, when I open the door, the big rush of fresh oxygen can cause a minor flare up, but it dies down very quick.

CS can give you the quick answer.
