Hi Marge-m,

Awhile back, I put togther a digital controller for my original 50. It used a digital controller and a relay to turn the heater off and on. If that's what your brother is looking for,an outfit called InsturMart (instrumart.com) has the temp controllers starting around a hundred bucks. The rest of the makings cost me another sixty dollars or so.

If' he's looking for a mechanical thermostat of some kind, just do a goggle seach for industrial thermostats and you'll find a bunch to choose from.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your quick response! I'm not sure what he had in mind..he's always modifying his smoker..searching for perfection..so I was just joking and said how about a thermostat too.{I was bragging about my new cookshack}..he said send me the link that had the thermostats on it ASAP!! by then I forgot which post I was reading.. I will pass this info along to him..and probably be back with more questions..good idea Queiser..we have a repairman that services our commercial reefers.I'n not sure what you mean by electronic or gauge style , or digital controller, but I am sure he does..what would be your first choice? Knowing him, he would spare nothing when it comes to his smoker..Would you have to go with a certain size or something according to the size of the smoker?{his is a stainless commercial fridge, single door..smaller size made into a smoker}and what would you call the thermostat that is in the cs55? Thanks Hook for the link, I will pass that along
thanks so much..I am passing along all info..he will be thrilled!! Thanks Magic Dragon..that was the post I was remembering! Nope..definately wouldn't try it on my cookshack.although just a few small tweaks would make it perfect.{I think this smoker is too easy..I keep wanting to add more wood, or open the drafts or check the temp...nope need to grab another beer and leave it alone.
