I've got hickory, cherry and apple wood for my first smoke on my 55. I'm smoking 1 butt and one picnic both weighing 9 pounds each. Give me your advice on which wood and how much! Any estimates on how long this will take?
New smoker, pork, 2 oz Apple, and 2 oz Hickory...OR 3 oz Apple, and 1 oz Hickory gets my vote...though I 'can' be convinced to go all Apple, but you'll probably want a bit of 'traditional' taste with the Hickory.
Now, let's see...2,000 people on this forum...you should get 1,999 differing opinions!

LOL!! I was thinking 6oz so he could back off a bit or go up a bit. And was going to suggest hickory as the bigger chunk of the apple/hickory combo.
But 4oz is better since we don't know vettman1's tastes for smoke.
