The poll is always nice, and since we would travel out of Florida to reach qualifier contests,it certainly could be a consideration.
But,while we are doing this fuel cost,we have to look at it as a percentage change from the same contest a year,or so ago.
If we figure contest fees possibly as high as $400.
Top contest meats,up to $250.
Rubs, sauces, disposables, cooking fuel ,maybe a couple hundred?
Motels,a couple hundred.
Meals out,contest and trip foods,snacks,drinks,support local raffles,etc
A couple hundred.
This is well over $1,000-$1500.
Time lost at work, payments for child care, kennels, etc. ???
The comp truck, trailer,EZ ups, cookers, and maybe $1,000 worth of gear loaded together.
That payment is ongoing!
If fuel is up from $2 to $4,what is the actual percentage increase from the earlier trip-on the total package?
Then look at your potential loss of fellowship, skill/experience gained, potential prestige, prize money, national point standings, chance at qualifying for national invitationals.
You have to rationalize it somehow,or we would all still have the $99 gasser ,out on the patio..
Just a thought.
