After a long smoke, 18hr, how much ash is on the bottom of your FEC100? I have quite a bit, say 1/2 cup. It even looks as if I get some ash on any meat if on the lowest shelf.
MaxQ, yes the pan is in. I use the oak blend from Q pellets. They are Lumber Jack, I think. I get the ash running 350, 275, 225, and 180. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks for the info.
Bear Mountain has more ash than Traeger. I just cleaned my FEC100. Didn't want to drag out the vacuum in the cold so.....I fired up the leaf blower. WOW! That was fun.
I've noticed on my new FEC100 that I'm also getting alot of ash thrown around inside the cabinet, all the way up to the top shelves that hold the racks, and on the meat. In fact after a long butt cook there was basically no ash in the firepot, all of it had been thrown around inside the cabinet. The only thing reamaining was a few partially burned pellets.
I've never seen ash thrown around like this in my older (2008) FEC100. I've spoken to several other owners of newer FEC's and almost all of them experience the same thing. My guess is the fan must have higher cfm's than previous models or the relay has them blowing longer.
I always vacuum out my smoker prior to each cook and use BBQ'r Delight pellets. I'm hoping that as this smoker gets more seasoned and obtains that buildup the ash will start to stick to the sides and not work all the way up in the cabinet.
I have experienced the same as Trucky and agree with Smokin. When I run my FEC100 high it scatters the ash all around.
I don't see much change in volume regardless of which brand (Cookshack, BBQ'ers, and Absolute) they all put out a lot of ash at high heat. but I notice that Cookshack probably produces the least ash at the lower temps.(i.e. 160-250)
I expect an ash storm when I cook a load of Butts at 275-300 its really not a problem for me.
My temps hardly swing at higher temps than say 224-250 range as well.
