Has anyone used red oak in their cookshacks?. What meats did you smoke with the wood.? Was the taste acceptable? Red Oak is it harsher than white Oak wood.?

I've used red oak a couple times smoking my Santa Maria Tri Tip recipe, and it turned out great. I didn't notice the harshness, but I like a heavier smoke flavoring. Can't you get your hands onto a couple samples to try for yourself?

Red Oak? Good night, that's all I burn in my wood furnace. too bad I have a FEC 100 and use pellets. I have smoked with it before when I used to have a SM066 and it was fine, but different than white oak. I still use it once in a while to enhance smoke on my 100 by using the log burner attachment, but I usually grab a branch off of our hickory tree for that.
I use red oak often, got 10 red oaks in the front yard! I usually do a blend of hickory, red oak and apple for pork or beef. By mixing woods together you get a flavor profile that you can really notice.
