The daggone cooker is so self sufficient that you have to leave yourself something to do. Otherwise you wont feel like you had any part in making those wonderful ribs & butts! No, but really Ellbee, I use a big roll of foil so you only need 1 peice, and I run it up the back & sides about an inch. The fat still manages to make it underneath the foil. So I would guess you're suggestion would still require clean- up as well.
It seems to me, pooling grease inside the cooker would increase the risk of a fire. I take a different approach to cleanup. I think foil is a bigger pain than its worth. I let the cooker cool. Then I take a sheetrock float(a big putty knife) and scrap the floor of the cooker. Couple of swipes its clean. As GeiyserQ says, the grease always get under the foil so you end up with grease to get out after you pull the foil out.
I've found wiping down the racks while the cooker's still warm, not hot, then cleaning after it's cool helps a lot with the cleanup. Sometimes the foil I use burns onto whatever I'm shielding. It seems to want to become one with the unit. Peggy

I have that problem only on the smokebox.. not always.. but more often than not.
