I have a buddy looking to pick up a used FEC and he's wondering how to tell if it's an IQ3 or an IQ4. Is there a way to tell visually what controller it is?

If I remember right, the FEC's have always had the IQ4. The reason is they've had the other versions in the electric smokers well before the FEC, so there were versions.
Before they added the IQ to the FEC, they had the Traeger temp controller.
It's pretty basic, if it has an electronic control panel or a dial/temp type.

I agree with you, Smokin. CS went straight from the Traeger controller to the IQ4 controller. There was nothing in between.
Thanks for the replies. I'm the one Scott was referring to. I'm looking to add a FEC 100 to my collection. Looking to buy used, so just trying to educate myself.
For used, craigslist.com is your best friend.
