If you do have to change, I would go ahead and make go with the IQ4. I changed out the controller on my 500, and I really love it. The flexablity and control, and then with the 100, you can use the temp probe.

I've got a 100 on the way, and I'm looking forward to it getting here.

The straight auger is subject to the upgrade. It was a fairly easy conversion and works well. The older units did not have the thermobreaker, so you have wire directly to the common wire of you power cord. I purchase a connector at the hardware store and made it an easy conversion.

Also be certain to put the fan on correctly. I put mine on upside down. Rather than blowing it sucked the fire back into the controller box. Fortunately no damage to the FEC or any animals.

Hi Merl, I'm upgrading my straight auger FEC100 to the new IQ4 controller. When you say "wire directly to the common wire of your power cord" which wire connects to the power cord, and what color is the common wire?

Also, the controller has an input jack for a meat probe, but I think I read that this doesn't work. Does the meat probe work?

Thanks.

Tom and Fred,
Can you report on how the new controllers are working on the non ramped FE. If you could email me a picture I would be most grateful. I realize this is asking a lot, but it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
