Hi All,
I know this is slightly off topic, but being a newbie I would like to weigh the meat before I smoke it. Does anybody have any suggestions for a good mechanical scale. I guess I could go with a digital, but I like the looks of the old style ones.

I would like to weigh the wood too so I guess it should increment in ounces but handle up to 20lbs or so for big roasts and mixing sausage etc.

Thanks,

I'm sure you'll get lots of brands and website suggestions (or I hope you do).

My solution, and be careful it can be addictive going here, go to a Restaurant Supply Store. You'll find scales and more stuff to "help" you cook than you can imagine. I've found scales, pans, fry gloves (that work great reaching in for hot stuff) and a whole lot more.

The scale I have is adjustable so that when I put an empty pan on it, I can zero it out and add the meat.

And it's certainly not off topic. I think one of the really go things to know is the weight of whatever you're cooking. Ribs are really a key to knowing how different they weight.

Smokin'
Thanks Smokin'. I'll check out the local retailers and if worse comes to worse I'll search the net some more. Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops each have a different model, but it is hard to judge the quality from their web site.

BTW, my smokette just arrived at the house a few hours ago... I know what I'll be doing this weekend!
