Left over wood

I have the Smokette Elite. I notice after the cooking is finished, even after a 12 hour smoke, the wood has not burned completely, there is still a charred chunk left instead of ashes. Is this how it is supposed to work or should it be ash after I am finished

Homer, I see this on an occasion when you have a light load.No need to worry as long as you are getting enough smoke.

How did the food taste? Enough smoke? No problem. That's how my wood usually winds up. Rarely do they turn to total ash.

I have found on my wood, that the dryness level makes a LOT of difference on ashes or just charred...but I like the rest, find that the smoke level is EXCELLENT on either.

I actually like my wood to turn to ashes, but the bark on the outsde doesn't. It looks weird, but I find myself checking the wood box after ever smoke,just because I can! Oh well.

I have the same problem(ah but is it a problem) have yet to over smoke anything, but the smoke flavor is there like it should so I guess it is what it is.
