Check this out you floridians. This also may pertain to out-of-staters. After getting my plan review fully complete with a commissary (which by the way took me about a month to find one) I received a call today from the Div of hotels and rest. They told me that I would have to find another commissary (I am using the local VFW) since the VFW is a non profit organization and is only inspected by the county and not the state. I thougt, oh no, here we go again. They said to go to the county and the county may or may not license you. I thought may or may not??? Anyway, I went to the county health department in New Port Richey and they were very nice and informative. They told me that I shouldn't have to go through Div hotel & rest., that they could license me since they have jurisdiction over the VFW. I asked them would I then be state licensed, and they said yes. There were about three of them discussing this, and heard them say that this has always been a problem. They told me to make sure I get everything back from the Div. The county health dept. also gave me a packet that consisted of a plan review, so I could have been licensed long ago if I had known this. Now filling out more paper work, but at least I got an answer face to face. Just wanted to let you know about this if any of you run into problems.

That's great.

I thought I'd posted similar info in another thread - I talked with Pinellas County Health Department a few months ago. They inspect the church/school kitchen I use and the inspector and her supervisor (really nice and helpfull) told me the same thing that you were told.

I'm still negotiating with the church for a letter (permission) to use the kitchen for mobile operations but they are open to it.

Again, great news and good info for all of us.
You just have to be prepared to take 1 step at a time and keep the bureaucrats happy. Most of the people you talk to have been told to do things in a certain way by their bosses. It doesn't make sense sometimes to us, but maybe there is a reason they follow that particular protocol. I don't blame them for following instructions.
If you can ever get one contact in an organization that is helpful, I'd always ask for that person and maybe write a letter of recommendation to their superior about how well they treated you.
Anyway, congratulations, Alan.
