I've had my Smokette for about six years and it lives outside under a Cookshack cover and under a roof. We live in southern Florida (Jupiter) near the coast. Read salt air. It has a little bit of rust around the door handle but nothing I'm concerned about.

I use it about thirty times a year now. I am trying to decide whether to take it to our place in northern Ontario this summer and buy a new one for down here.

What, if anything, should I expect to go wrong? The electric controls? What do I do then? Does Cookshack refurbish a tired unit? What is the cost? Is there a serial number on the unit somewhere?

Just curious and trying to plan ahead. Life without my smoke oven would be very dull indeed!

Forever....

There aren't many who've had their unit that long, so you're in the lead asking some questions.

You're question would have to have some answers from CS. For those you'll have to call them as Customer Service doesn't monitor the forums. They prefer to help customers on a 1 to 1 basis.

Smokin'
The things that are likely to go wrong are pretty easy to replace: the heating element, thermostat, and cord. I've replaced my thermostat thanks to the nice folks at CS's CS with about 1/2 hour of work. The element or cord would be similar. Other than that, maybe the outside would need repainting someday or maybe new racks when the chrome rusts off. The box itself should indeed last several lifetimes. Who knows, maybe your great grandchildren will be using it on Mars!
