Back about four years ago, I picked up an open 4'x6' utility trailer to haul my FE to contests with me. The only mod I made to the trailer was to put marine grade plywood on the floor of the trailer as the original floor was expanded steel mesh.

I have gotten my money back ten times over. And the nice thing is I could turn around now and sell it for at least 50% of what I paid for it orignially.

I lay my FE on its back just like FF does. I can do the loading by myself. But I need someone to help me lift it back up though. If you are going to be transpoting your FE much, you might want to look into a trailer of your own.
The unloading is what I was worried about. Some events I will be cooking by myself. Laying it down by myself and lifting the monster is what I am worried about. I live in a subdivision that doesn't allow utility trailers and the price of storage is $50/month. Thanks everyone!
I push mine in and out of the trailer all the time. Pushing it out is fine, but after two days at a contest, pushing it up the ramp is a pain.

You do have to learn where the weight it, the leverage points are (like put the controller up the ramp; if you put it down it might tip towards you)

Get bigger wheels if you'll be doing lots of this.
We are adding a shelf to the back of our Alpha RV

I can then lay the FEC on its back

My new team mate is my Bride she had no interest in sleeping in the pickup truck so we are in the Alpha for 2010

A packing blanket makes this all work
Our shelf will also have tracks for the
Fast Eddy Grill to roll up on
Thom... I am using a heavy-duty cargo carrier that fits the hitch of my truck for my FEC-100 this year. Is that what you mean when you say "shelf"?

For anyone else out there that has used an FEC-100 on a cargo carrier like this, I would love any tips or pics you may have. I am pretty sure I know how I am going to secure it, etc, but any experienced help would be sweet.

Stu, I threw some thoughts out on Basso's forum.

You going to be at the meeting on Saturday, we can talk.

The key is center of gravity. Depending on where you strap it and how it's strapped, it might tip over. I used a trailer for a while and I strapped it vertically and horizontally.

Another option if the trailer has low sides would be to mount the smokers with access from the outside.
if your trying to do what scottie done I would also make some kind of brackets that drops down from the rear of the frame on each side to help support the weight. have it quick attach & remove with pins and clips. by the way are you down sizeing? you had a nice trailer set-up. FEC is @ 425lbs I think.
Yeah Russ we'll be there and yes I am downsizing. I sold my enclosed trailer and will be cooking out of the back of the truck for at least the 1st part of 2010. Eventually I would like to upgrade to toy-hauler/RV type so my wife and son could enjoy it more. But that will be a couple yrs. For now, I was going to use the cargo carrier, but I have been thinking of getting a flat bed trailer to haul the FEC and all my stuff for comps.

Thanks for the help guys!

Stu
