Over the weekend I made some chili and wanted to do something different with the hamburger this time. So I took 2 lbs of hamburger and made about 7 or 8 patties and smoked them for about 1 hour.

Once the burgers were smoked (2 oz of hickory) I then crumbled them into my slow cooker (crock pot) along with the other ingredients which I make chili from. (Stewed tomatoes, tomato puree, cumin, coriander, chili powder, etc.....). I then slow cooked this (on low) for about 4 hours, let it cooled down and refrigerated it over night.

Before tasting it I wasn't so sure how the smoke hamburger will do against the other spices. Well, to my surprised I was able to smell and taste it. I thought it tasted good and gave it all away to my brother for his family to try out.

Have anyone out there tried to smoke hamburger and make chili out of it?

I have made it with the smoked hamburger, and it is quite good, as long as it isn't too smoky (if that's even possible! Wink )

I have also used it to make stroganoff, hamburger-mac-and-cheese casserole, and a variety of other dishes. It really adds that something-something.

I have to admit though, my favorite is still just using it for plain old hamburgers!
