I've read all of the discussions on thermometers: Maverick vs. Taylor, Polder etc. The general consensus seems to be that the Maverick has problems with the remote. People seemed generally more happy with the remote Taylor. The problem is, most of the discussions are over a year old, and neither Taylor nor Polder now makes a remote read thermometer. So it looks like these are now my only two choices:

Are there any other brands out there with remote thermometers? Most of what I've been reading is that the Maverick remotes don't work too well.

Thanks
Steve

I have two Mavericks and ET-7 and an ET-73. Both perform well although I had to send the ET-73 back because the on-off switch didn't work properly. They both lose sync. occasionally but it is a simple matter to re-sync. them. Oregon Scientific makes one with an advertised range of 300 some-odd feet. I believe it's a talking model. I would have no reservations buying another Maverick though.

Which one do you like better?

It looks like the ET-7 may have a few more features.
I have the ET-73. The first I received did not work correctly. However the replacement works fine. Yep it can lose connection, but I operate it at the 100' mark. Reading online reviews I've found, no make of wireless temp probe seems to completely avoid this "feature".

The ET73 comes with an oven probe and 1 meat probe. The ET7 has 2 meat probes. The features for the ET73 probe channels appear to be very similar (if not exact)to the ET7 (temp alarms, timers, settings, etc)

Since my 020 cookshack has a digital display for temp - I didn't need the ET73 oven probe. I intend to order an extra meat probe and swap out the oven probe so I can use 2 meat probes when smoking 2 PB's.

Finally the ET73's transmitter on/off and reset button is located under the batery cover. If you lose connection you may need to remove unit clip stand and battery cover to acccess switch. PITA! I noticed that the ET7 has external switch for quick access. That is better.

Used it (ET73) several times now. Works fine other than the 1 lost connection that I had walk out to smoker to manually reset.
I picked up one of the ET-7's from Amazon for $39
I like it.

I still use the original non remote probe therm I first got to watch smoker temp.

I use the two meat probes on the ET-7 for different meats.

I did a pork shoulder & a couple tri tip roasts.
You can set meat type & alarm temp, per probe.
It is easy to switch between the two probe readings.

I think you cant go wrong with it, but the transmit range could be better.
I'd guess that, unless you have a stick burner and lots of deep snow, and can't get to the cooker, all the concern will be moot.

You sleep in the truck,at a cookoff, that you have $2,000 invested in,500 miles from home, and you are really the worrying type.

I know that I have a Maverick in the cook kit-someplace,but a couple Taylors,with wire,for $12 more than suffice.

Once I see the cooker is stable ,before bedtime,I may not even hook my therm up until 2-3 hrs before the meats should be done.

Just my $0.02
