Can anyone recommend a non-spicy good rib rub (or recipe) I can use? I have a 4 year who is quite sensitive to any level of spiciness so most rubs I found in-store with chili or cumin are out of question for me. I want to do both baby back and St. Louis style if it makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

John Henrys Pecan Rub is pretty mild to me and also pretty good. I once made some baby backs for the kids. I only rubbed them with brown sugar. I also spritzed with apple juice periodically. The last half hour I mopped on Dr Pepper mixed with Brown sugar and then finished them with Sweet Baby rays mixed with Dr Pepper. The kids went crazy over them. They were way to sweet for me but the kids loved them.
I have a Grandson that is sensitive to heat as well. What I have found if I use something like a Barbecue rub instead of a Rib rub it usually is not as spicy. This being the case I will go easy on the rub and top it with some brown sugar before smoking. With about an hour to go on the cook I will pull the ribs, put them on foil and top with some honey. I then wrap the ribs and put them back on for 45 minutes, unwrap and cook another 15 or 20 minutes before pulling them off.
Try that next time and see if he likes that.

I know this is way late but this is what I use:

Aleta’s “Not-Hot” Rib Rub
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Paprika
1 tsp Coarse Black Pepper
1-1/2 Tbs Garlic Powder
1-1/2 Tbs Onion Powder
2 Tbs Kosher Salt

Adjust the black pepper for heat. If you cake it on on a coating of yellow mustard, it makes a pretty good bark too. (Just make sure its a crisp bark. Soggy paprika does not taste good)
Stop at any grocery and pick up a small bottle of Lawry's seasoned salt-regular and a 1 lb box of brown sugar.

Use Lawry's to coat lightly and evenly and then coat evenly with brown sugar.
Amazing how many comp teams do this and it offends no one.

Many find that cooking the slab correctly still is 90% of the game.
Butcher BBQ Honey Rub is very good. It is sweet and my non-spicy 12 y/o loves it. It has a little pepper in it, but has a good overall balance, I really don't taste heat at all when we eat it.

Beware thou, ButcherBBQ.com is dangerous. U will find lots more to love there. His other rubs r delicious and the brisket injection is great. I received his stuff from a gentleman (David Qualls) on the sauce/rub exchange. Good luck.
