Before last week's Great Server Suicide, I was trying to post a response to a question Woodking had about interesting cooking wood. I have a beautiful book by the Weber Company (but I don't have a Weber!)"Great American Grilling." In there, I found a table about wood. Most suggestions I have seen already in this forum. But, buried in there was grape vine. Surprise to me. So, I went to the farm and got some dry vine. (Wild grape is abundant here in the south.) I put some 8 X 1 inch sticks on my gas grill, and cooked fish. Good stuff! Burns like propane, so watch out. Pleasant, very light flavor. Haven't tried it in a choked-down smoking scenario.
Anyway, Woodking, you should find some grape vines there in the hollers of W. North Carolina. acarriii
