I started the FE on smoke for the first hour with the butt on the top shelve & noticed the temp was around 110 at the end of the hour. After 1 hr i turned the dial to 250 & went home. This pellet cooking sure is rough. LOL Anyhow i got up this morning in a panic thinking that i was stupid for not filling the hopper to the top so i got ready & drove back to work all hyped that my first cook was screwed. I had loaded the FE inside my trailer with a elbow pipe sticking out the door. Well i moved the unit over so i could open the door & saw the temp was at 100 but there was grease in the aluminum drip pan i was using. I opened the door & i had a big pile of pellets sitting on top of the burn unit & no fire. The butt looked absolutely great & was moist to the touch. I stuck in a polder thermometer & it went right to 185F so the fire could not have been out that long & i still had half a hopper full after 11hrs. I am sorry to say that my pork butt looks real bad now as i sat there by myself waiting for my workers & i ate almost all the bark off of it. I did take pictures but i can't do much till i get home. So question, why did the fire go out & the pellets no burn. Was it because there may have a breeze go into the elbow & put the flame out. I did not put a longer pipe on the elbow as it was not raining so i turned to eldow to face the side position not straight up. Next how the heck di i get the pellets out that have not burned up.
Thanks
Earl
