I got asked to do a job in Jacksonville for the FL/GA game for 110 - 160 people. I'm already busy that weekend cooking the FBA State Championship in Minneola. Anybody from here interested? Email me for the contact info.

aren't start ups fun???
will keep hitting the internet but when gen dealer in onca city ask where ya at in florida boy this doesnt bode well
I bought the #03364 at www.generatorsales.com

It's a 13hpHonda with a Coleman generator, but it's loud. I thought I'd be running my Groen steam jacketed kettles in my rig. They pull around 54 amp each.

I just checked with www.northerntool.com . They are pretty much sold out of theirs, due to the weather events you just stated.

Next year I'd like to try a Honda EU3000IS. I was standing next to a EU1000 and didn't realize it has running.

We have alot of problems getting enough power to our rig while catering on site. Always popping breakers in their house. We went to a RV dealer and bought a voltage monitor [$50] to keep an eye on our useage. Fast Eddy told me low voltage is hard on the circutry in our FE.

Good Luck! Roger

Not sure you really want/need an inverter generator unless you are running computers and printers. The Honda super quiet inverter genies produce power that is cleaner than what is put out by most local utilities. You won't need "clean" power for a kitchen. The standard alternator type genies are great for running lights, AC and resistance heaters. They just happen to be noisier than the Honda "ie's" (super quiet's).

The only thing you need to do is to know what the "starting amps" are for your AC which will be probably half again as high as the running amperage. Then add up all the lights, the heating tables if they are run on a resistance coil, the frig if it is electric.. etc. I would then add another 20% or so in order not to overload the alternator.. and for unexpected additions to your "shack".

If you decide to go with the Honda superquiet's.. The one I have is 3000watts and they can be paralled.. to give you 6kw.. but, it'll be pretty dang expensive. There are two places where you can buy Honda Generators cheaper than any other place that I know of.

Thanks, Bill
I think we'll probably not use the air conditioning much since we'll have the serving windows open. I'm sure it'll be hot, most kitchens are. Our electrician said the refrigerator and freezer startup would probably draw the most electric. He also suggested the 20% rule you spoke of.
Those Hondas are very tempting. Just can't get our hands on anything right now, due to storms.

Bill,
You and chateaubeyond both recommended the Honda 3000. Thanks to our BBQ friends we got our hands on 2 of them just before the power went out during hurricane Jeanne. We picked up the first one today. You were right, they are extremely quiet. All we've heard lately were generators running in the neighborhood and they are a lot louder than lawn mowers! After hours and hours of it I felt like climbing up the walls and all around the house! Thank you so much for helping us.

oh man did we have fun today, sunday
drove to tallahassee and back saturday 500 miles round trip.
isolated which recepticals went to which side. seasoned in the sm150 and fec 100 plus that leg does the freezer and reefer. unpluged reefer. followed directions for both the sm and fec. waited 1 hour at 300 on the fec and then took it up in steps to 450 and it hit that no problem. put wings in (hey i dont check nothin without cookin) and man there was no heat fall off. so i didnt figure eddy would get mad and opened door and took temp down in 100 degree increments. at 185 she smoked like heck and this turned out to be good.
peggy had both sets of trailer keys and since the sm was done and the freezer was at temp i thought turning on a/c was a good idea. it was but i forgot that she had the keys and since i shut the door it was locked. killed the generator drove her home 15 miles to let her call a locksmith. she drove back and when it was opened up gave the smith some wings and he loved them!!!!!!
and that is how we spent today lol

2 Greyhounds....SMOKIN!!!!
Watching the SM150 was great fun! I kept yelling out 45 min. and it's at 230, 50 min. and it's at 228, 55 min. and it's at 231, etc. The Honda generator was wonderful. But we will need the second one if we run everything. We had the freezer on the FE100 and the SM going, it was just fine. Tried the burners, still fine. I think it was OK with the refrigerator. The A/C made the overload light come on. We were there at least 4 1/2 hours and only used maybe a 1/2 tank of gas. I think that's less than a gallon.
I let the SM150 go to holding temp. using the pre-programmed temp. settings for chicken, mainly because I wanted to hear the noise it made when it changed to holding. It took about 1 1/2 hours to actually get down close to 140. I have a nice color to the walls. I used 2 small hickory chunks, very light weight ones and they were still producing some smoke after this.

The locksmith really liked his chicken wing, but he still charged $80!!!! BUMMER!!!!

I do love the SM150!

Thanks, Cookshack!
Peggy
