Need Best Estimate on Time for First Smoke

I know it's "done when it's done", however, due to some scheduling this weekend, I need some best estimates of time for a 6.25 lb. Butt I'm going to do in the 09.

I'm planning on about 10-12 hours at 225...does that sound close? I'm going to put in around 11 p.m. Sat. night, and hope to have done by Noonish on Sunday. Does that sound close? I'll wrap and hold in a cooler until dinner time. Would 4-5 hours in the cooler be too long?

Any comments or best guesses would be helpful. I'll post more than pics...i'm going to do a small movie with the rub-down, etc. and post the link.

I would think under normal circumstances that 10-12 is ample time.
If it isnt then it sounds like you have given yourself 4- 5 hours leeway.
If it is done on schedule then 4-5 hours in a cooler should be ok as well.
I double wrap in foil, wrap in an old bath towel (emphisis on old. Dont take wife's bathroom decor towels.) and stick it in the igloo.

I am a 08 owner sense last fall, and have smoked several 6 - 6 1/2 lb Butt's one or two at a time and most smoked about 10 hours at 225 with 4 oz of hickory, and foiled in a cooler for 2 hours.these all came out very tender and pulled easly.With this said I think your on the right track with time and temp.Good luck and enjoy.

I did a 8lb butt last week and it took 16 hours @ 225 de. I recommend that you purchase a temperature probe, (I always use 2)and pull it at 190de-195de. No need to foil unless it's a time issue.

I've now done 3-8 1/2 lb butts and they each took 161/2-17 hours. Wrapped in foil, newspaper, towel and held in our cooler until time to pull. I guess 3 butts does not an expert make, but they were perfect. Love my CS!
