Smoking my first butt,6.25 lbs been on for about 10 hrs. but temp probe reading is at 174, do you think reading is wrong and butt is done or leave it on for a while, help ricko

I'd leave it until it reaches 195 degrees. Butts tend to sit in the 170 degree zone for extended periods of time - "the plateau". I've had butts take 18 hours quite frequently. Are you smoking at 225? They call it low and slow for a reason. If you can be patient you've got some good eating coming your way.

It will get there ricko. Gotta have some patience! Like HT said, there's a plateau where the temp seems to just hang (and hang, and hang). Ya begin to think the butt's never gonna get done. And, if ya pull it out too soon you're gonna kick yourself. As our guru of smoke says "It's done when it's done!" Take your eyes off the thermometer for a while! It will get done sooner (hopefully) or later.
