Need New Probe to Replace Broken One

I just had my go-to meat probe go bad on me. The one I had was cheap. Rather than buying another cheap one and replacing it again in six months, I was thinking of getting a little bit better one. I know many here use the Polders which seem to be around $30. Any particlar model better than the other with the Polders? What other brands/models seem to work good? Any suggestions are appreciated.

One that also gives oven temp readings would be kinda nice, but not necessary.

Kevin -- Go to the main forum page. About 10 threads the "Thermometers" has its own venue.

I would venture to guess that most "do not" own Poulders. I just bought a new Taylor. It has a 10 year warranty. Taylor is my favorite.

I think they are all made in the same Chinese factory (sweat shop).

I have an Accu-Rite and a Polder. I have had them both for a few years. Both have original probes and both work equally well.

I see so many in stores, like GLH, I'm sure they're all made in the same place. Any more I keep a few on hand and if the units break, I throw those out. If the probes break, I buy a new one.

Just buy 2, one for the smoker, one for the meat.

I use Oregon Scientific AW-131 units. They are a lot heavier duty cable than any other I've seen and I've never had one fail. If they do, they are replaceable for $9.95 factory direct.

Usually $60, they are on sale now for$50, and if you order on lin and use the discount code THEQJOINT you get another 10-15% off.

These things have about a 1000' range as well.

I have 2 Polders, both with original probes and have had no trouble and both are 3-4 years old! GLH said it best, all made in the same Chinese sweat shop!

I use the Thermapen from Thermoworks. They are a little pricey at $85, but it very accurate and extremely quick. Thermoworks.com

Well yea, those thermapens are high dollar and you have to open the door to use them !!!

Why not be able to know the temp without opening the door ??? No brainer.

I know they have their place, but not very often.

I also have a thermometer/timer from Thermoworks which was rated #1 by Cooks Illustrated and it seems to work real good. It is only $20, it too says MADE IN CHINA on the bottom. For some reason they never put AT A SWEATSHOP though!
