Hello,
I picked up my FEC last night. After driving 2 hrs back in single digit temps I unloaded her and TRIED to fire it up....Nope! Grabbed the manual and decided to go for the high temp button inside the electric box. That was it and it came on. But it wouldn't allow me to set time or temp. After about ten minutes it let me set everything and we were off and running. Same thing this morning. I realized the board was cold, heated it up with a blow dryer and presto she worked.
I picked up a 5 ft piece of standard duct pipe and a 5" elbow. Worked good but I can see that a high wind will be a challenge. Any help here would be great!
So all I really know about the unit is " level and clean"! Any other start up advice, tricks, tips, whatever would be GREATLY appreciated.
I am thinking of putting it in my garden shed and exhausting through the roof. Does anyone see a problem with this. I will level a piece of plywood ( shed slopes)
To park it on.
It sure is nice knowing you guys/gals are out their to answer questions!
Thanks,
Will

welcome to the group and thanks for stopping by (from the other forum).

I know you asked about fires. Truthfully, they're not common, but the word FIRE gets your attention.

Make sure it's level
Keep the grease out (don't let it create a puddle anywhere)

Venting can be a challenge. Putting pipe on there will change the airflow. Not good, not bad, it really becomes an issue of air pressure and how far the air has to push.

You also will get a lot of smoke every time you open the door so the vent pipe won't help that.

have a read through the forum, there have been some recent posts (one this week) about a vent issue.

Welcome.

So, whatcha gonna cook first?
Cooking right now! Stopped at Wally World ( usually go to rest distributor but it's a long drive). Anyway....all they had was 14lb plus so I got a 15 pounder that looked pretty nice. I usually get around 10-12pounders and choice or Angus but this is a first run so what the heck.I took pictures and should be able to get em up tonight.
