I am starting to do more and more events and after doing my first competition can see this is going to be addicting.

I have plenty of smokers, but can't take the offset and trailer so need to find another smoker to go with my FEC-100.
I was thinking a second FEC-100 which would make it easy to keep spare parts on hand in case of an emergency. Then I started looking at the FEC-120 but not sure how that would do on location with possible bad weather.

Also I am in northwest PA so winters get tough with temps below zero at times if that makes a difference.

So I am between the FEC-100, FEC-120 and a Backwoods Gator (accepts full pans)

I have only been to one competition and the fec-120 is too new to see in this area but figure you guys can offer some advice.

I've cooked outdoors with my FEC-120 in rain and snow without problem. I think some are concerned about the exhaust coming out of the top. There is a flange/lip on the two exhaust ports so no worries about rain/snow collecting on top of the FEC-120 and pouring in through the exhaust. The low exhaust profile also makes it impervious to wind.

Electronics and the auger system parts are the same as the FEC-100 from what I can tell (most of the Operator's Manual appears copied from the 100). The 120 does have the convection fan, but other than that, it's pretty much the same as the 100 parts-wise. Grates are the same size for both units.

I was planning on getting an FEC-100 but have no regrets having opted for the 120.
I haven't used the 120, so I can't really say one way or the other.

Questions I have:

1. Comp, Catering or both? (think capacity)
2. Which category? Do you want flexibility

Obviously two pellet cookers give you redundency.

I use two FEC100's and also use them differently. Did ribs in one. PB and Brisket in the other and whichever was free (if Butts/Briskets come off on time, it's free)

I also like an option of different woods. I use different for Pork vs Chicken & Brisket so two cookers help.

My ONLY concern with the 120 is it's a different smoker for you. Different isn't good or bad, just different.
I've had an FEC100 and now have an FEC120. I've done a little competition but mainly a serious hobbyist at home. I really like my 120. It has cooked in cold, warm, rain and snow with no problems. It will cook a little faster than the 100 all things being equal due to I think the convection air movement. I like the fact that the 120 has a separate fire chamber and that it seems to have no hot or cold spots when cooking
