saw a pretty slick deal operating this week. They had one of the honda eu2000 generators AND a car battery.
apparently the honda has a DC out for 12v that will charge batteries. He said he used the generator during the day and charged the battery while it was running, then ran off the battery during at night so there wouldn't be noise. Seemed like a good idea. I just wonder if the eu3000 also has the battery charger function.

boy Thom. I'm having a tough decision. The 3000 is 150#!! which it tough to lift alone but also handily theft resistant that way. 2x2000 seems like double the trouble.
I'm afraid the 2000 won't run a fec100, my trailer flourescents, a coffee maker and a 3bay electric steam table.

what's your opinion?
The 3000 has the 12V DC too. I keep mind locked in the kitchen area of the trailer and can pick it off the ground and shuttle with it 10 ft to its operating location on the screen-enclosed deck. It get's a lot heavier after a long day, when I need to return it and lock up. You can buy or make a wheel kit too.

I don't think the 2000 will run that either but add them all up and think about what items will be on at the same time. I'm able to get bye with a 3000 even though my maximum demand is over 10,000 Watts, simply by juggling usage. Remember Watts = Volts X Amps

Nice website skippyp.
thanks rootsman. I'm almost done with the redesign (i.e. don't pay attention to the nutrition facts!)
I've come to the realization that I can only afford the 2000 right now. If in the future I need another I'll spring for the 3000 (I see they make a 6.5kw, too!). my power demands seem to be all or nothing and I've always gotten by off the plug of a friend with a loud unit.
I guess it's time to 'man-up' and get my own. But I'm not a fan of the parallel units. You have to use an rv plug adapter and then run that to a power strip. Too many plugs and cables for my liking.
Well,

Always options.

Use your generator for other electricity and get an inverter/battery set up for the FE's.

In my trailer, I have a high tech inverter charger and 2 deep cycles. The I/C is hooked to the trailer electric. It is auto sensing and feeds power to the FE's and charges the batteries. If the trailer loses power, it automatically cuts over to the batteries. Works like a champ!
say, why isn't anyone into the onan generators? they're popular with the rv crowd.

added later by edit:
I reviewed several rv forums looking at the kipors. Saw the name of a person who frequently was associated with the kipors. sent him an email asking about them and here's the reply:

"Hi, If you are only going to use one a few times and you can get one CHEAP buy a Kipor and don't think about it. If you want a unit that will last and you do not have to think about it and you can afford it NO QUESTION!!!! buy a Honda! this is from a person that bought hondas generators and sent them to Kipor so they could copy them. you can decide from there! Pat"

interesting...

When I was looking for a generator, I looked at the Kipor. A lot of dealers dropped that line. There was a lot of trouble with them. I bought the EU2000. No problems at all. Plenty of power, and very quiet. I am in construction and most of my equipment is Honda powered, and I have never have any problems. You can also get an external tank and get over thirty hours of run time. http://durationpower.com/store//page4.html
I went through the same forums when I bought mine. When they first came out, there was a problem with service.

All I can say is I own one, works perfect for me and I got it for 1/2 the price of the honda. At the time, I'd of preferred Honda (good reputation) but I have zero issues with my kipor and the money I saved went for other trailer goodies.

Yup, too many choices.
I too went through the pricing game and finally decided on the Honda. It came down to how much I wanted to worry about my generator during competitions. I decided to take this issue out of the picture by purchasing a proven generator. BTW - I responded to your reply about the great pricing I found at an e-Bay store. My 2000w barely knows the new FEC500 is there. I'm going to use my other 2000w to run other necessities like blender, lights, blender, coffe pot, blender, well, you get the idea!!

I agree, you can get a lot of great input from this forum.
