No Pellets being fed? (FEC-100)

FEC-100 was working fine, then in the middle of a cook the pellets stopped being fed.

I emptied all the pellets and the auger is not moving, sounds like the motor is working.

After several seconds you will here a click and looks like the auger jumps a little bit but does not turn.

Where should I start looking to troubleshoot.
I did a search with no luck, sorry if I missed it.

How hard is it to replace an auger, or pin?

Not hard.... Sounds like the shear pin may be jacked...

Just open it up and pull out the auger... You'll be able to see where the problem lies.

Or call Bill at CS tomorrow and he'll talk you through it...

Happened to me in the middle of a cook. The pin connects the motor to the auger. Put in a new better pin and never happened again. Still don't know why it happened the first time.

can you get a pin locally or need to get it from Cookshack? I will dig into this in the next day or two. If the stuff does not float away with the hurricane.

If I remember correctly, a 6-32 machine screw worked when mine broke.
Ordered up a couple of spare pins and changed out the machine screw to a factory pin later.

Not difficult at all.

They call them "Shear Pins" for a reason. The shear pin saves the motor if the auger gets jammed. If the shear pin doesn't shear, the motor stops and over heats and burns out or over heats the wires feeding it and melts your wiring harness.

So, don't replace the shear pins with a "Stronger" pin as a permanent fix.

A spare shear pin from Cookshack cost me $20 (ouch)!

Order some other stuff (pellets, rub, spare pin) to offset the shipping. That way you won't feel bad when a "big" box arrives. I like the Fast Eddy's Rub if you haven't tried it.

You can pick up a similar pin at most hardware stores for a couple of bucks. Or can order through Cookshack.

I just used a piece of welding wire to keep going. That's been 6 months ago and it's still doing fine.
One of these days I'll do a permanent fix. LOL

this may be a good time to revive the spare parts to keep on hand thread. I really need to have a backup plan!

If you are putting together spare parts, include door seals, shear pin, fuses and a spare muffin fan. If you get out somewhere when the muffin fan goes out, you can get one at Radio Shack for $20.00. I keep one as spare.
