As was mentioned above drbbq started Barbara and I on the comp circuit ,helping him,and sent us to learn to judge.

Ribdog is his longtime teammate, and Craig took his class.

Ray has taught most of us around Fl what a pellet cooker is and how to use it.

He continues to coach from the sidelines.

Another quick thought about pellet cookers.

This was the second time out for Craig's cooker and it's second RGC.

Maybe they aren't all bad?

I was just looking around at some older threads and I saw this one.
In my first ever FBA contest, using my homemade FEC100 inspired (ripped off) design, me and Ribdog won three out of four catagories, and we still have the highest individual catagory, and the highest overall scores in FBA history from that day. I'm not a favorite son so they choose not to list that on their website, but it's the truth.
I use mine only to cook for myself and I don't compete. I think the cost of the pellet delivery system is a good portion of the cost so I don't think they would make a small unit. I bought a small smokette when I bought this unit and I only used it once. I think my dad swiped it from me now. Big Grin

I actually have used mine to capacity. I cook up large amounts and vacuum seal and freeze.

Another benefit for me is it get extremely cold here. I load the food in the heated garage and push it outside to cook and it doesn't skip a beat. I have cooked when it has been -38F outside.

Traeger makes a small unit that I have seen advertised for $499.00 using the same pellet
delivery system.
Does Ray have a Bad side? Well I know the first contest I cooked at. Ray was right next door to us laughing at me as I had half the forrest with me for my home built lang 60. I know that he took all the prize money in the morning and looked refreshed. Made me switch to Pellets. Now I have four of the dang things. Wife says I have a problem and might need to go talk to someone about it....LOL But I think she like it when I bring home some prize money also. Ray has helped me out alot and I thank him for it. I think alot of people are help ful in the the BBQ Family that is what it is all about no fun having the same person winning everytime. Then you have no one coming out to compete.
