hey all!
cookshack makes one tough smoker! i have an FEC500 on a trailer, and as i was pulling it home from lake city colorado back to dublin texas, i hit a deer! it happened just south of childress tx. at 3 am. i did not see one animal all trip, except for the big horn sheep in colorado. and not many cars on the road at that time of night. then this deer just had to get to the other side of the road. well i missed it with the front of the truck but it did catch my smoker...... damn thing hit the hopper box, i pulled over in the middle of nowhere to assess the damage. the lower portion of the hopper was smashed in pretty good [i was going 70mph at the time], i was mad and sick......all i could do was get on home and check it out in daylight.......well unbelievablythere was NO damage to the enternal components! thank god they made the smoker out of stainless steel!....like i said everythink was still working [ i just did a turkey yesterday] for that i was lucky......and im probably the first person to hit a deer with an FEC 500 lolol. anyway it is one tough smoker.........now i have to buy a new hopper but its better than buying a new smoker.......just thought i'd share my little adventure............
