jrl,
man is that a loaded question and i am sure it will become the new "smoke ring" subject.
since each fec is different in the way it cooks you may have to experiment around with different manufacturer's pellets. that being said for MY fec i find i get the best smoke and lowest smoke temps using bbqers delight pellets (to be more specific a mix of 50% oak and 25% each of pecan and cherry although for the cancer society benefit we did last friday and saturday i used an equal mix of oak, sugar maple, pecan, cherry and apple. smoke density was the same but the lowest smoke temp i could hold was 155f which is 10 degrees hotter than my normal mix but the flavor was great). the other thing i find is in MY fec there is less ash using thier pellets.
i know people who swear by fast eddy's pellets and people who love traeger pellets and would die before they switch from them because in THEIR fec's they work just the way they want them to.
so to answer your question just try different pellets and keep notes. in a way it's fun to do and certainly makes for a more intimate knowledge of YOUR fec
hope this helps some

Are those the same BBQers Delight pellets that come in one pould bags in Walmart and such? Or are they somehow different.

I understand that normally it wouldn't be cost effective to buy one pound bags but I got a bunch of them in a closeout last summer. Usually I use Traeger pellets and add two of the one pound bags to get different flavors. But I've never tried running the cooker exlusively on those one pound bags.

No, Bill. Not at WalMart. The 1# bag is 100% flavorwood (excepting Jack Daniel's & Savory Herb). Many 100% flavorwood pellets are great for smoke, but don't provide BTUs to cook. Plus there can be an ash buildup problem

20# bags of Heat ReSource BBQ pellet fuel in Hickory, Mesquite, Pecan, Apple, Cherry, Oak, Sugar Maple and Black Walnut. Not on the web site (yet), but my phone number is.
