Hi everyone, i've been smoking for several years on a Traeger, and now it's time to move up to an FEC!

with the Traeger i literally use a ton of pellets. for my butts, i usually set the controller at 250 degrees and let'ter go for 10 to 12 hrs. in this time frame i normally use up between 16 and 18 pounds of pellets.

so my question is: what is the normal usage of pellets on a long burn like butts?

thanks in advance,

ron-

I've had 4 Traegers and I know what your saying. Those babys sound like a jet plane sometimes. With my FEC 100 I'm using about 1/2 pound per hour on long cooks. I was wondering if the thing was even working at first cause all I could hear was the auger cycling on every so often. Instead of the blast furness effect of the Traeger, the FE just kind of breathes on the firepot, just enough to fan the flame.
Traeger's aren't insulated, and depending on the outside temp, will use even more just to hold a temp.

You'll find with your FE that the only thing in common with the T's is the pellets. They've improved the process a lot.

The FE's are fully insulated and if you have the IQ4, it's roughly 1/2 pound per hour.

Higher temps, 275, 325, or more will burn an hour per pound our even more.
