Pellett Usage

Were they the silver or white bags from Traeger?

Silver...

I've gone through 50lbs. of pellets in the last 16 hours...

Nothing has changed except the new load of pellets...

You didn't mention which cooker and at what temps,although you are comparing.

Smokin' will hear a lot of input,and he will steer you correctly.

The other approach,ask Stuart-the President,and he will work with you directly.

Remember,they often don't monitor this forum.

What usage are you comparing it to, how much did they burn, at the same temp? Are they the same flavor?

Pellets in silver are oak based, out of Alabama I think, not Alder like the white bags.

Usage is actually an indicator of BTU's. Different brands, different bases and environmental factors will change the usage.

If you were burning a brand that was 100% of a flavor and burned at higher BTU's, it would take less pellets.

You'll also have to compare prices and flavor effect.

That's why there are other dealers, lots of theories, lots of options.

I'm compaing it to what I've been burning since I opened up shop...My run period is from 8pm until 5pm next day...during that period I've been burning 40lbs...Now I'm going through 70-75lbs. during the same period of time usage...Same temp of 225-240...Flavor is NOT the same...I'm getting NO smoke penitration...I really feel that I'm serving up oven BBQ not smoked BBQ...I've lost my smoke ring...

This is the second shipment I've received from Cookshack...first shipment of pellets were great...burned efficent, great taste, beautiful smoke ring...No problems to speak about...

Second shipment I'm very dissatisfied with...not burning efficent, no flavor, very little smoke ring...All problems to speak about...

I'm thrown off because it's the same brand..why such a difference? This shipment seems to be a bad batch...I'm even getting different ash in my fire chamber...this stuff is black and very dirty looking compared to a greyer look from the last batch...even the feel...very gritty and seems to lack a moisture content...

If this is what I can expect, I'm not going to order this product in the future...

Who else is out there that sells by the ton with good quality? Really would like some names...

Do call CS on Monday. If the quality of the pellets isn't the same, but it was the same bag, then something is different and I know CS would like to know about it.

For me, is sounds like Traeger put the wrong stuff in their silver bag, their alder product (white bag) sounds like the symptoms you mention.
