We are planning a trip in June to go to N Carlina to visit my mother-in-law and would like to fit in a couple of contests, hopefully to judge, along the way. It will be I-40 from New Mexico to Statesville so anything nearby is fair game. The current Bullsheet lists Tryon, NC, Gore, OK, Memphis (Childrens Charity BBQ), Grove,OK and Smyrna, TN - these are the closest distance-wise during our time frame. Any thoughts on which ones would be more fun, or a better BBQ experience would be apprecitated. I thought this forum would be the best place to ask since it seems that many of you judge as well as compete.

Thanks in advance for any input on this. If you know of any other KCBS contests mid-June we should consider, please let me know.

Hi Mudgie, ready for the Rio Rancho?

Can't make it this year. Sending a first time contest temp, Jeff and Mike out of Tulsa Oklahoma. Jeff didn't have a contest team name yet.

Forget Grove, not very well run and no guarantees it will be going on this year.

I think most will give Tryon good marks.

Maybe some of the Eastern Competitors will jump in and help.

Thanks, Smokin'. Tryon is closest to where we are going so I will try to get to that one. Am looking forward to Rio Rancho - they learned from last year and should have the layout a little better this year. They are hoping to have a new area built for next year. March is a great month here with the Fiery Foods Show and Pork & Brew.
