Hi everyone. Been smokin in my SMO25 for a few months. Mainly butts and ribs so far. up to this point I have not done both at the same time. I'm planning on smokin 2 butts and 3 racks of baby backs for family a few days after Christmas. Normally my butts have been taking about 15 hrs, and ribs from 4-5 hrs.At what point would you reccommend adding the ribs to the smoker. And would you add more smoke? Or would it be best to do the butts, first, use the towel and cooler method to keep warm, and then do the ribs? thoughts. Thanks, SmokeDawg

When you add the ribs and wood, turn your smoker off for a couple seconds and restart it. That should retrigger the start up procedure where the element stays on for 20 minutes in order to get the wood burning. That should eliminate Cal's concern about the wood not smoldering.

Ribs may finish a little sooner cause they'll be placed into a hot smoker with the element now on 20 minutes straight.
First time doing Butts and ribs at the same time worked out well. Smoked the butts all night. Added the baby backs and more smoke with about 2 hrs left on the butts. Took the butts out at 190 degrees, double foiled, towelled and placed in the cooler while the ribs finished. They were still very hot when it was time to eat (about 2.5 hrs later). Made some of Smokin Okie's finishing sauce for the pulled pork which was great. As a side note, I made some beans from the "best baked beans" thread in favorite recipies. I made those the day prior and smoked them for about 3 hrs. Placed them in the frig so all I had to do was reheat the next day.I had people tell me those were the best they had ever had. And I have to agree. I can't believe all the great help and ideas on this forum. I appreciate everything!
