I have a Smokette II 008. I didn't use the smoker for awhile. After smoking some fish I noticed that the wood to the rear of the woodbox was unburnt. I went through the operators manual and there wasn't any information on the specific position of the woodbox. I notice that the ens of thr woodbox are different. What is the proper positioning of the woodbox?

Jeff,

I removed your email that was showing. I'd never recommend posting it as webbots (from SPAMMERS) will find it.

You or anyone can always use the PM (private message) feature to find anyone). Just click on the name of the poster on the left side and you have multiple options.

Put the wood towards the front of the box, near the curves of the heating element.

And two posts in almost 4 years... hope you've been alright, but that's WAY to long for only two posts Big Grin
I understand what you are advising putting the wood to the front. My concern is that previously the area that isn't burning the wood did. I can just place the wood in the front 2/3's of the woodbox. However, it still leaves the question...why? Could the element be going bad? I'm just trying to diagnose the problem. There is nothing the operators manual about placing the wood in the front 2/3's of the woodbox.
Smokin's suggestion is a good one. The element may have slipped down with the insertion and removal of the wood box over time. Lift the element so it touches the wood box.

I lift my element just high enough so the wood box doesn't want to insert unless I gently lower the element so the box can slide in. That way, I know the element is touching the box cause I can hear and feel it touching. That should do it for you.
Hi Rapper,
The heating element on my 009 is 3/16 inch below the wood box support bracket. I do like Okie says and put the wood in the front half of the box. With a cook time of 6 hours about 3/4 of the wood is burned. I did 12# of wings the other day for 2 hours and most of the wood was unburned. I don't get concerned because it produced plenty of smoke and great wings.
The wood box is made to fit in only one way. If reversed the door cannot be closed.
