I'm sure some of you out there have purchased Smithfield's cryovac picnic shoulders at one time or another.

Question, do any of you know if this is "pumped pork"?

I've bought a local store's own picnic shoulders and liked them. But lately they've been putting Smithfields in place of it and they do taste different to me.

The main thing is that I can taste a little salt in the meat. I don't use salt or add it to anything that I cook, so that on a supposedly "fresh" piece of meat, it's very easy for me to detect.

However, when I asked the meat manager he tried to tell me it's not pumped pork, that there is nothing added, it's fresh.

Anyone out there experience this?? Curious.

Thanks..SmoKen

Mornin,

The stores sometimes stick a self basting Smithfield on everything that comes through.

If it looks like a Smithfield label built into the cryovac,it should say if it is pumped.

We have been seeing almost all Smithfield ribs, butts, pork roasts, etc. pumped in the groceries.

Sometimes it says on the shipping carton,if you can see it.
