Hi Waldo,
Welcome to the forum! Your assumption is correct Cookshacks typically ship with Hickory. Put a bunch of it in to season your cooker (4 or 5 chunks should do), but go easy on the hickory when you cook something. Hickory is fairly strong. You can always try more next time!

Good luck!

Welcome Waldo,
Rich is right, Cookshack usually sends a box of hickory and it is strong....If you dont already have one you can buy an inexpensive kitchen scale at any local Wal-Mart or similar type store. I would definately buy one, when I smoke ribs in my smokette....usually 3 slabs...I only put about 3 to 4 ounces of wood in it...All of us at one time or another have put in too much wood and believe me, its enough to make John Wayne cry like a baby when you see the results
after its seasoned you can even put in a small chicken with no wood at all and still get a good "wood smoked" flavor
Good luck and enjoy your new CS.
