I have purchased my second remote meat thermometer and it has died on me. The first one was a Nu-Temp 701 and I went back for 'seconds' and purchased another one of the same gender. In the last eight months I have two thermometers that has gone by the wayside. I babyed these two units with no abuse.Of course they were both out of warranty when they died! Now! I need to know of one that will work and stay working. Please advise.

What went out on them? The probe? The display? How did you determine they had "gone out"? I have had probes "die" on me only to try them again in a week and they would work. Excess moisture got in the end of them. But I have been using the same Polder for the last 14 months and havent even had to change the batteries.

There are several threads on this issue. I suggest you do a search.

Some say boiling the probe in oil disburses water (humidity) that has wandered into where the wire meets the actual probe, the most likely place where the problem is - unless it's the guts of the unit.

I've only owned two brands; Polder and Taylor. Polder lasted about 6 months; Taylor has been faithful for over two years.
I did some research and made a call to Taylor Thermometer at 1-800-225-4834 and asked them if the digital remote thermometers were guaranteed for life like their commercial products. Customer service rep resentative advised that the remote thermometers have a life time guarantee. Just wanted to "blow some smoke" and let my fellow smokers know this about Taylor's warranty. Heck, they are better than Wally World! I will know now where to purchase my next thermometer. Thanks!
Smoky, I have 2 taylors. they are my stand by work horses. I have a Maverick remote as well. The mav. is NOT as dependable. it comes and goes. I have replaced a probe in a short amount of time. I trust my Taylor. I did not realize taylor had a remote. next time I will try the taylor. just my opinion! I know others swear by their Maverick.

I always post that you should buy what is on sale.

I have always said that, after about 6-8 yrs, mine have always come back.

Now I use mine in all kinds of cookers,up to commercial models that run 600+.

My first probe died on me a couple weeks ago.[Cooks error?]

Darn, that only works out to about $0.05 a cook.

Taylors were mentioned above, and most cook teams have several around.

Box stores carry them for around $15 .
Just a word to the unwise (like me).It gets a little confusing when you have 3 or 4 thermometers and 3 or 4 probes laying around. I've had problems when I mistakenly used a probe from one brand on another brand thermometer. Some probes seem to be interchangable while others are not.
