Howdy,Hangingh. You might shift down to the cookshack recipe forum and pick up any of the three or four there. You can increase the sweetness with extra turbinado sugar, which resists burning,or just increase the white or brown sugar till it suits you.Experiment-that is the best teacher.Hope this helps.

Good Q 2 Ya,Tom.
Now Hanginh...

You're not REALLY coming on the Cookshack sponsored forum and asking how to duplicate their rub are you. I say this not as an employee of CS, but as a fan of their products.

You can certainly find lots of rubs out there (I can tell you abour 2 or 3,000 of them), but I don't think it's fair to our sponsor since they're trying to sell it.

I'd also venture that it's cheaper just buying from them than trying to make one -- for most people.

Your asking a question that lots ask: "How do I duplicate XYZ's rub?" My answer, if you don't want to buy it from them, then try to create your own. I have abour 3 or 4 rubs that I use all the time that are mine, but I'll also use commercial versions too.

Just my opinion. Be glad to help you with rub recipes. Hope over to the recipe forum as suggested and we'll help you there.

Does anyone know anything about The Texas Provisions Co.? A few years ago my wife found their Bar-B-Que rub at the Dallas-Ft. Worth airport. The rub contains celery seed which seems to be somewhat uncommon but which I feel gives the rub a particularly pungent odor as well as flavor that is lacking in most other rubs. I have never been able to locate the company or another vendor. The label says "Distributed by Texas Brags, Inc. Dallas. Also, can anyone fill me in on the use of celery seed in rubs?
Hi Peppercorn!!

Celery is a very popular ingredient in many rubs. Be forewarned..it is VERY strong...in my experimenting, I have ruined many a batch by using too much! Here is one from Famous Dave's..he owns the franchise bbq joints...

Famous Dave's Rib Rub

1 cup Brown sugar, light
1/2 cup Kosher (coarse) salt
6 tablespoons Sugar
1/4 cup Garlic powder
2 tablespoons Chili powder
2 tablespoons Lemon pepper
2 tablespoons Onion salt
2 tablespoons Celery salt
1 tablespoon Black pepper, coarsely ground
1 tablespoon Celery seed
1/2 teaspoon Clove
1/2 tablespoon Cayenne pepper
1/4 cup Mrs. Dash, original blend
2 tablespoons Salt

PREPARATION:
Combine all.

This will make about 3 cups.
